We have had some wonderful North Berwick reviews from visitors to Puffin’s Lookout. If you have a review of our town, please get in touch

My sister lives in Tranent and we wanted to visit her. We were attracted to North Berwick mostly due to the fabulous reviews for Puffin’s Lookout on TripAdvisor. The photos on the website showing the stunning views from the apartment and the quality of the accommodation made it look perfect for a family break. On arrival the view and apartment did not disappoint. North Berwick also proved to be a fantastic location to holiday with children. We enjoyed playing on the beach, frequented many lovely cafe’s and the Seabird Centre. The children also had their first go at decoupage in the art and craft centre. It’s great that you can catch the train to Edinburgh and enjoy the city whilst staying in North Berwick and enjoying the coast. My little boy still goes to sleep every night with the toy puffin we bought at the Seabird Centre – we will definitely come back!

I first discovered North Berwick some 30 years ago, when I drove out from Edinburgh to try and play Muirfield, and the old Secretary would not let me play even though no one was on the course that day. So, I ventured out a few more miles and played the West Links (it was quite a bit cheaper back then than what I paid to play last year). After golf, I walked up town to have lunch. I fell in love with the place on just that one day visit. I have played many of the great courses all around the U.S., Scotland, England and Ireland. The West Links is one of my favourites.

Following that first trip, we have been back to Scotland several times. I have a cousin who lives in Edinburgh. However, every time that we come, we always spend a few days or more in North Berwick. The town is great, as are the people, and it is great for golfers – West Links, Gullane, Muirfield, Dunbar and so on. And, you can walk the beach, visit the sites and enjoy the countryside.

We have stayed at various spots, including the Marine Hotel before it was renovated. If and when we return, we will come back to Puffin’s Lookout. It was special. My screen saver on my computer is a picture of Bass Rock from the living room window. Since the early 80s, the town has retained its charm and the restaurants have improved immensely. It is a short train trip to Edinburgh for those who want to visit the city.

We visited North Berwick in June 2013 because we were looking for a quiet but fun place for a family holiday. We had only been to Edinburgh before so we wanted to spend a few days somewhere closer to nature. I’m a photographer so I asked about good places to visit in Scotland on a photography forum and someone mentioned North Berwick. I googled some images from NW and I was booking the plane tickets within the next hour.

Finding accommodation was not easy as I’m usually quite picky but this time I was lucky – the name Puffin Lookout popped up when I looked through the listings on North Berwick’s website and after seeing a few images of this beautiful apartment I knew I found the place! And we weren’t disappointed! The apartment was situated just across the street from the beach and it the living room view the most fantastic ever! We’d wake up to the sound of waves and high tide. The apartment had everything and more so we never missed a thing during that week. The host, John, gave us a warm and friendly welcome and showed us around in the apartment. He had prepared some books and DVDs for our boys (7&8 years old) which we really appreciated. During that week we felt like we stayed at a 5-star hotel but better, because it was so cozy and at the same time we had plenty of room to relax.

North Berwick was not a disappointment either. The beach was amazing (the best part was no crowd at this time of the year) even though the water was too cold to swim our children had the best time playing with sand.

The Seabird Centre is situated just a stone throw from the Puffin’s Lookout and we took a boat trip to Bass Rock which was really great! While waiting for the boat we had a nice lunch at the terrace of the Seabird Centre.

Seeing gannets and puffins from such a close distance was an experience in itself! What an amazing opportunity for me as a photographer! We loved every minute of it!

North Berwick really has everything we wanted for the short family holidays.

We loved the view from the Law – the climb is so worth it – it was breathtaking!

We’ve found a few nice playgrounds where we took our boys.

We took walks exploring the coziness of North Berwick – what a charming place! Oh, and the sunsets are amazing!
