The Chesters Hill Fort

The Chesters is regarded as one of the best-preserved examples in Scotland of a large, Iron Age fort defended by an elaborate system of ramparts and ditches highly suggestive of multiple phases of construction and occupation.

A short walk takes you through the impressive ramparts and ditches into the interior where there are surface traces of circular, stony house foundations. Some of these foundations overlie some of the ruined defences suggesting, as has been found at other forts, that occupation continued at such places even when the defences were no longer needed.
