Summer is well and truly upon is here in North Berwick and with it comes the summer calendar of events. We are, of course, counting down to Fringe by the Sea, but NB’s summer events extend well beyond that wonderful week in August.

This weekend sees quiet a lot going on around NB. We have on Saturday the world renowned Dirleton Games. I can tell you  from first hand experience if the sun shining down it really is one of the best afternoons of the summer- even if only to witness all the crazy parking. Nip into the deli at Why Not before you head over and pack a yummy picnic.

Also in Dirleton this weekend, ” Man at Arms Weapon Talk”, taking place in the castle. If best behaved puppy is not your thing then this is the place to listen to bloodthirsty tales of siege warfare and castle life with a selection of medieval weapons.

Closer to home, well by about 2.5 miles anyway, North Berwick itself is bursting at the seams with things to do.

Try a spot of mackerel fishing on “Braveheart”. I myself was out on it last weekend, a great experience with an excellent captain in Dougie – really knowledgeable. Didn’t help my fishing though but I won’t hold Dougie responsible for that. An excellent afternoon out on a beautiful boat.

It could be, I have to admit somewhat reluctantly that the weather may not be conducive to these outdoor pursuits and adventures or perhaps it’s just that you fancy something a tad more – how should I say – fragrant?? If that’s the case then the thing to do is get in touch with Tanya at The School of Floristry for a morning or an afternoon’s escapism amongst the blooms.

What ever you decide to do when you’re here in NB, we would love to hear about it on our Facebook page.
